Abstract
The Indonesian Islamic Higher Education was established as an historical necessity, i.e when an ever-growing number of Muslim youths began to need educational service at this level. This need was strengthened by a strong intension to assert their religious identity in the midst of national life. However, confronted with the national education policies which to some extent continues those of the Dutch colonial's, the Islamic Higher Education is still in search of its final position in the national education system.
